"I came when I heard you beat the elite four"

There's something about pokemon that makes it feel fresh every installment. The games, not the show. Each generation gets slightly better writing, and thus, less material to make fun of, so it only makes sense for people to write parodies based off their first experiences, the first generation. And after at least a decade since those games, the evil Team Rocket and their subsequent replacements are still lame, and Professor Oak is still creepy. Pokemon parodies have been done a lot, especially in Flash animation, so the main concern with writing them is not how to make them funny, but how to keep them fresh, the way each pokemon game is supposed to feel fresh.

This parody was a bit different. Instead of a "Pokemon Abridged"-esque tale, we were given a plot as well as a comedy. Albeit one that differs from standard Pokemon shenanigans. I don't think the music and pop culture references helped the theme here, but they were entertaining. I really liked how you made use of sprites from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. It seems like that would be a given for a pokemon sprite movie, but I've yet to see somebody use them until now. The voice acting wasn't stellar, in my opinion. In that none of them could compare to skitty's voice actor. Overall, this movie isn't totally different from previous Pokemon parodies, but I think it stands out among them. Nice work, Esty.

Eastbeast responds:

I can relate to that alot to what you wrote, thank you :) I wanted to make something different based on old ideas my friends used to throw around. I kind of wanted it to be a comedy that people could see the same humor with their friends, and experiences, playing a pokemon game for the first time. The humor here was also fun and expiremental, just to see how rediculous I could make things while maintaining an interesting plot. I'm more interested in actual drawing animation now, so if I did come back to this series, it might be in that type of style. Thank you for your review, I am looking forward to working with you on the Pikmin Collab. :) p.s I AM skitty. haha (voice changer) as well as all the pokemon, I don't know why I didn't put that in the credits? haha slipped my mind.

creeper jokes are unavoidable

But the insurance claim was clever.

Good lord

My mind must really be fucked up if I actually predicted what would happen at the end.

Regardless, this animation is on par with only Newgrounds' finest. A great play on horror stories and incredible soundwork. I'm glad you took your time on it after all.

Some faults

I have no qualms with sprite movies, even ones that closely relate to SMBZ, so I won't tell you about how lame it is to see another Mario and Sonic crossover featuring Dragonball Z sound effects and antagonist characters that are simply recolorings of Sonic.

The intro was pretentious. Another lame cliche that people can't stand is people putting themselves into their movies as some all-powerful demigod for no good reason. Luckily, it was only the intro.

I liked how somebody finally used the dojo master as a supporting character in one of these movies. He ranks among one of the biggest badasses of Nintendo games. I don't remember him shooting energy beams from his palms, nor can I imagine how he mentored four different characters from different dimensions, but it was nice to see him used properly.

The writing wasn't half bad. What I mean by that is, it could have been much worse. There was few cliches in the dialogue, and the characters came off as believable.

What I don't like is the lack of credits. You used sprites, music, and sound effects that weren't yours, and you have to give credit where it is due. Instead of just ending with a replay button. It's the courteous thing to do.

Good luck with your series. Surely this will be a great way to improve your overall skill at movie making.

Shadowmjl responds:

Thanks for the review. I have to agree with your points about the intro and the fact it's a crossover. I know Sonic, Mario DBZ movies are a dime a dozen, but i figured if i can at least be slightly original about it, it might be ok. And of course doing this helps improve my skills for future series. The intro i'm not that happy with either, it was more a test to see how it came out then anything else.
As for the Dojo master training them all, all the worlds are meant to be connected, like in the Smash Bros series. In episode 2 Eggman and Wily try to blow up the nexus point that holds the worlds together, which would split them apart forever.
I'll try and work on the dialogue more and with the credits, i originally posted this movie on my Deviantart account and had the credits listed in the Artist Comments there. But you're right; credit where it's due. I'll be sure to add proper credits in the future.
Again, thanks for the constructive criticism, it is appreciated :)

That druggie was my father...

And that was the ONLY way for him to put food on the table. >:(

Joeylicious responds:

Well, your father was just an old shit on a couch!

This seems relevant to my interests...

Well, I guess the cat's out of the bag. I...am ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THE VIDEO I WAS WATCHING

Massive props here, mate. The soundtrack (Macho Man), the cameos (James Earl Jones), and the walrus (Radwalrus). And the penislover collection of mine? A little smaller than it is in real life, but beautiful. Absolutely magnificent. It took me a few watches until I finally stopped masturbating to the AYCH DEE for me to really start analyzing each detail of this masterpiece.

Oh jehova, I need some tissues. It's all over my tablet.

Why does pasta have to be so goddamned messy? >:(

Joeylicious responds:

Whatever.

Where is JEJ and WW?

How ghey, you didn't even get everybody in. :|

lolololololololool

it be christmas ok

Jesus...this was absolutely, positively spectacular. The music choice, the animation, the visuals. Is it too late to be picking out nominations for NG Tank awards. This couldn't have been done better in any way. Inception has nothing on this. I can tell you that.

Clever

A nice take on the Seven Deadly Sins.

This takes me back

Not just because it's like those old kiddy cartoons with those piano soundbytes and soundtrack and G rating, but because I remember when this movie was just a lonely script.

...*sniff* They grow up so fast...

Joeylicious responds:

Yuppir

You've come a long way. Here, have a cookie...your inventory seems to be full. Come back when you can carry more items, I'll hold onto this for you. *Munch* *Crunch*
